‘How to heal Nigeria now’ – Sheikh Abubakar Gumi

Renowned Islamic scholar Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi has outlines ways in which to restore peace in Nigeria. In a write-up he shared on his facebook page this morning titled ‘How to heal Nigeria now?’ the cleric says for Nigeria to experience change, the country needs neutral set of new leaders that are not stained with innocent blood of Nigerians. “First and foremost, every Nigerian must give a sacrifice. Everyone of us must give and take. Muslims and Christians, northerners and southerners, rich and poor.

What Nigerians need today are neutral sets of new leaders that are not stained with innocent blood of Nigerians, that are not corrupt, that have not held sensitive positions in the past (we had only bad experiences in the past so don't talk the crap about experience- innocence is what is needed).

Nigeria needs no ambitious politician who is not ready to step down for reconciliation. Who's ego to rule supercedes the national interest of harmonization. Nigeria needs new blood and new sets of visionary leaders. Call him Nigerian Obama or Putin.

A polarizing figure is not an option. A figure that will not claim he is opposed because he comes from certain region or religion. If the PDP or APC are not ready to field candidates of these qualities, the peace loving Nigerians should vote for another party with such a candidate.

I have my preferential candidate but I don't see him suitable at this stage of Nigeria recuperation so I have to sacrifice- give and take.

I have my dreaded candidate also so I expect those behind him who want a peaceful, stable and progressive Nigeria should also have to sacrifice - to give and take. Let us all dump the ambitious politicians for new breed of leaders. If you want peace to prevail heed my advice otherwise don't blame anybody for your misfortune.

Nigerian politics is now controlled by the oil-wells generals. It's not about region or religion. It's all about personal greed and vendetta.

Let us put a fullstop to these military opportunists and vanguards of feudalism. We don't need to eliminate them like the Rawlings of Ghana. We only need to make them irrelevant in our political life. We need to clip their wings of oppression and return Nigeria to Nigerians. May Allah Guide us right this time. Amin”
