Wave-making comedian, Patrick Onyeke aka Kunle Thomas, has
disclosed that his comedy skit currently showing on television has been
in the pipeline for about two to three years, but only decided to
unleash it now.
Kunle exclusively explained to Nigeriafilms.com
that his style of comedy is called ‘slapstick’, which is a comedy with
less talk. He further said this has now been accepted by Nigerians.
Kunle Thomas
also stated that his aim is to do a pan African comedy that
will carry everyone along.
Furthermore, he joked about comedian
stealing other people’s jokes, saying that it’s just a matter of time
because a thief can never steal for long. “Let them steal. Its better
you pray to God to continue to give you the creativity so that they can
continue to steal. Every day for the thief one day for the owner,” he
said.
Kunle Thomas noted that Nigerian comedians are actually
lazy and really need that push because people don’t want to venture into
new things.
“It’s not just stand up comedy alone, we have not
exploited a lot of comedy avenue well such as slapstick, sitcom, stand
up, dark comedy which means it might not be funny to you, but it’s
funny. You don’t have to gesticulate to make people laugh but in the
real sense, it’s funny,” he told Nigeriafilms.com.
He advised that people should take their time to explore other genres of comedy and not just stand up comedy alone.
The
comedian who wrote ‘The Place,’ which was directed by Desmond Elliot,
was nominated for best comedy writer in Africa, in the Africa Magic
Viewers Choice Awards 2014.
