A hunter, who suffered a severe bear attack and had two
broken arms and wounds to his face, jaw, stomach and legs, killed the
animal with his bare hands in Minnesota, USA.
The unnamed victim together with his fellows were hunting in the
forest when he suddenly noticed an enormous black bear and shot it with a
bow and arrow. After several hours of tracking the bear the hunters
found the wounded animal lying on the ground.
When they tried to get closer, it suddenly charged and pounced on the
victim. As the 240kg predator clawed and chewed the man’s arm, he
started screaming and fatally stabbed the bear at least 20 times with a
hunting knife.
One of the victim’s friends led the mauled man out of the woods and
he was later flown to a local hospital. The hunter, who suffered two
broken arms and wounds to his face, jaw, stomach and legs, is now in a
stable condition, while the black bear was later dragged out of the
woodland by the remaining 10 hunters.
The American black bear is a medium-sized bear native to North
America. It is the continent’s smallest and most widely distributed bear
species. They typically live in largely forested areas, but do leave
forests in search of food. Males tend to weigh between 60 to 160 kg, but
some can be as large as 270kg.
