The European High Commission has come down hard on Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shema’s speech in which he told his supporters to treat his political opponents like cockroaches.
The EU Delegation to Nigeria head, Michael Arrion told reporters that Shema’s call to his followers to kill” and “crush” his opponents is extremely horrendous and unacceptable.
Arrion said: “If it is confirmed, that kind of statements are I’m sorry to say, extremely dangerous and unacceptable”.
Mr Shema had asked told his followers: what to do if they found the nocturnal insect in their apartments.
The crowd responded with Kill them!” Then Shema responded: Crush them, agreeing with the crowd.
Arrion refrenced Rwanda’s 1994 pre genocide chants and comments made by Hutus against the Tutsis.
Arrion went on and revealed that the EU will be giving financial grants to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Also said that a team of EU officials will be in Nigeria from the beginning of next year to ensure a smooth elections.
He said: “We are going to have a few dozens of observers, we cannot have observers at all polling units,”.
Mr Arrion also said that if Nigeria is to attract European investment, they will have to change their enviroment so as to attract investment.
