Ghoncheh Ghavami sentenced to 1 year in prison in Iran
A 25-year-old British-Iranian woman was sentenced to 1 year in prison over trying to watch the males’ volleyball game.

In 2012 Iran banned women from watching volleyball games reportedly for the sake of their protection from lewd behaviour of male fans. Thus the actions of Ghoncheh Ghavami were interpreted as the spread of anti-regime propaganda.
Amnesty International called for the immediate release of the woman, who they characterized as a prisoner of conscience. By the current moment the demands of the international human rights activist have been left unfulfilled.

It would be recalled that last week a woman was executed in Iran over killing her attempted rapist. The
international campaigns begging the court to spare her life failed
