A former United States Army General, Carter Ham, has disclosed that Boko Haram capabilities surpass that of the Nigerian government to a great degree.
General Ham rtd, who was once head of the U.S Africa Command, made this disclosure yesterday on a CNN talk show hosted by Amanpour.
The Army chief voiced that the escalating terrorist activities by the Boko haram insurgents shows that Nigeria could no longer tackle the problems alone. He said there was need for Nigeria to seek for external help.
General Ham’s suggestions come as damning disclosures by Nigerian solidiers on CNN yesterday reveal that they are outgunned and outmatched by the Boko Haram sect.
On Monday, White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest pressured the Nigerian government to improve its human rights record. Noting that ‘’the United States is going to continue to monitor these events and continue to work with Nigeria on this.”
Next month’s presidential elections in Nigeria adds another layer of instability to the issue. The Feb. 14 election is expected to be a close contest between current President Goodluck Jonathan and challenger Muhammadu Buhari.
