Sad!! Catholic Bishop Of Aba, Ezeonyia, Is Dead
The Catholic faithful in Aba, Abia State and indeed in the country have been thrown into mourning mood following the death of the pioneer Catholic Bishop of Aba Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. V. V Ezeonyia. He died during a brief illness
According to sources, Bishop Ezeonyia took ill on Thursday last week and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Owerri, the Imo State capital where he was said to have died on Sunday morning of undisclosed ailment.
In accordance with Catholic rites, Bishop Ezeonyia, whose body had been deposited in a morgue, would be interred on February 27 at the Bishops’ Vault, Christ the King Catholic Church (CKC), Aba.
Ezeonyia, who was in his 70s was appointed the first Bishop of Aba Diocese of the Catholic Church in 1991 when it was carved out from the Umuahia Diocese and had held sway until his death on Sunday.
As pioneer Bishop, Ezeonyia was said to have superintended over the development and expansion of the Catholic Church in the Aba Diocese, creating new parishes and appointing new priests.
Under the late Bishop Ezeonyia’s watch, CKC, Aba headquarters of the Dioceses was greatly transformed with many structures springing up within a short period.
