Enugu notorious robbers killed in gun duel with police (photos)

Two notorious armed robbers identified as Udochukwu and Onyebuchi, said to have taken some residents of parts of Enugu State were on Saturday Sept 19 shot dead during a gun duel with the police. The deceased were part of a four man gang who has been on the list of Enugu State police command for their roles in several robbery operations as well as murder of some residents of the state in time past.

On Sept 19, intelligence report reached law enforcement agents in the state that the four-man gang would be launching another assault on another area of the state capital.  The security operatives immediately mounted a stop-and-search along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, by Trans Ekulu axis, where the suspected armed robbers were expected to advance to the state capital to carry out their nefarious act on their victims.

The search for the advancing robbers dragged into the night and by 8:00pm, the robbery gang appeared in the area in an Enugu State taxi colour Volkswagen Golf car.

It was gathered that on sighting the security operatives who searched vehicles moving along the expressway that the armed robbers opened fire on them, which met with a switft response from the combine anti-robbery squad. In the ensuing gun duel, Udochukwu and Onyebuchi were felled by the police bullets while two other members of the gang, who themselves were fatally wounded, escaped through the nearby bush path with their injuries.
