Four people have died after suspected cultists invaded a restaurant around the Eastern-Bypass area of Marine Base,Port Harcourt, on Saturday.
Student Pulse gathered from media reports that the gunmen, believed to be cultists, attacked a restaurant shooting indiscriminately.
Four people were reportedly killed on the spot while an unconfirmed number of persons sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Quoting unnamed eye witnesses, PM News reported that the victims were taken away by policemen who arrived at the scene after the killers had escaped.
It was also reported that another five persons were killed near a popular hotel in Oroworukwo community, just a few hours after the Marine Base attack.
The Rivers Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ahmad Muhammad, could not give an official confirmation of the incidents but was quoted as saying available information was sketchy.
Port Harcourt has witnessed intensified violent attacks as the 2015 general elections draw close.
In January, two people were shot dead by heavily armed gunmen suspected to be cultists in two separate attacks on Omoku community, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of Rivers State.
Student cult groups have been severally blamed for the attacks and in May 2014, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, suspended all youth bodies and activities in the state over alarming rate of cultism related violence
