Boko Haram Defeat Nigerian Army in Marte. Soldiers Flee

Boko Haram terrorists have recaptured Marte in Borno State from the Nigerian Army, reports say.

The insurgents, numbering about 2,000, caused the soldiers to flee the town after they appeared from different directions, AFP reports.

"The terrorists, numbering over 2,000, appeared from various directions on Thursday [April 23, 2015] and engaged the soldiers in Kirenowa town and adjoining communities in Marte," local community leader, Imamu Habeeb said.

"They fought with soldiers over the night and the fight continued today (Friday), forcing hundreds of soldiers to flee," he added.

"They [Boko Haram] used the weapons without restraint and succeeded in killing several people,” local vigilante member, Shehu Dan Baiwa said confirming the attacks.

Nigerian soldiers were also recently forced to retreat from Sambisa Forest, a Boko Haram stronghold, after a landmine explosion killed three people.
